Description

Wegovy® Tablet (Oral Semaglutide) is a prescription-only medicine approved by the MHRA in June 2026 for weight management in adults. It is the first GLP-1 receptor agonist tablet licensed in the UK for this indication. Semaglutide works by reducing appetite, increasing satiety, and supporting reduced energy intake, helping the body achieve meaningful weight loss when combined with lifestyle changes.

  • First oral GLP-1 for weight loss: The first tablet form of a GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed in the UK for weight management.
  • Reduces appetite and increases fullness: Helps lower daily energy intake to support sustainable weight loss.
  • Once-daily dosing: A simple oral tablet taken each morning, with no injections required.
  • Clinically assessed treatment: Only prescribed following a full clinical review to confirm suitability.

Wegovy tablets are intended for adults with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related health condition, and should be used as part of a comprehensive, clinician-led weight management plan.

Warnings

  • Do not use if you:
    • Are allergic to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in Wegovy tablets.
    • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
    • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Consult a doctor before use if you:
    • Have a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, or kidney disease.
    • Are taking other medications for blood sugar control, such as insulin, as combining these with Wegovy tablets can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar).
    • Have gastrointestinal issues, as Wegovy tablets may cause digestive side effects.
  • Discontinue use and seek medical attention if:
    • You experience severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting (possible signs of pancreatitis).
    • You notice swelling in your neck or throat or experience difficulty swallowing (potential signs of thyroid issues).
    • You develop gallbladder symptoms such as pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, or jaundice.
  • Not suitable for use in children: Wegovy tablets have not been studied in people under 18 years of age and are not approved for paediatric use.

Keep out of reach of children: This is a prescription medication and should only be used by individuals for whom it is prescribed.

Directions

  • Dosage: Wegovy tablets are taken once daily. Your healthcare provider will gradually increase the dose over several weeks depending on your response to treatment and your overall treatment plan.
  • Administration: Take the tablet first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, with a small glass of plain water (no more than half a glass). Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider for correct timing.
  • Take on an empty stomach: Wegovy tablets must be taken before any food, drink, or other oral medicines. Wait at least 30 minutes afterwards before eating, drinking, or taking other medicines, to allow proper absorption.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose: If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next tablet at the usual time the following day. Never take two tablets on the same day to make up for a missed dose.
  • Store properly: Store Wegovy tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight, in the original packaging until use.
